You can't beat a team that's a beta team

My Beta readers have come up trumps. I asked them to focus on big picture items:

  • Are the first few chapters engaging? Did they make you want to read on?

  • How was the pacing? Did the story drag in any places? Or was it too rushed or light in other places?

  • Do the characters seem real? Are their backstories clear? Do they behave and talk in a consistent manner?

  • Did the overall plot hang together? Did I leave too many clues so that you figured out the ending well in advance? Or did I not leave enough, making you feel like I pulled a fast one at the end?

  • Were there parts of the book you particularly enjoyed? Conversely were there parts you didn’t like?

  • Did it make you want to read another book about Luke Sackville and his team?

Denise, Irene, Keith, Lauren, Marcie and Sarah have given me great feedback that is both constructive and critical. I started editing today, beginning with the typos (thankfully only a few of those snuck through) then moving onto plot changes. I'm still on those as I write this and the next step afterwards will be adding depth and clarity to some of my characters. I'm also planning to do some research into places my protagonist Luke Sackville visits in Book 1 and will edit as appropriate.

I've allowed myself 4 weeks for editing but fingers crossed I might be able to finish in 2 or 3.
