Wherever possible, I like to use real places in my books. One of the first, right at the beginning of book one (Taken to the Hills) was The Salamander, a great pub in Bath. My reason for choosing it was a personal connection. Back when I was a teenager (we’re talking the world being in black and white) it was just about the only pub in the centre that stayed open past 11 pm.

I’ve also had to use poetic licence on occasion. The real Bath Mosque is a Georgian townhouse but for The Corruption Code I wanted a tower and minarets so I re-designed it (that’s the power of being a writer - no architectural skills needed!). And, of course, there’s no Filchers head office on the Lower Bristol Road.
Another place we see regularly in the series is The Good Bear Cafe, where Luke meets up with his mate Pete for breakfast. It’s another place I recommend! Great coffee, great breakfasts.
