Late post (apologies!). Last month I went to Chiltern Kills, a one-day Crime Fiction event in Gerrards Cross which, fortunately, is on my side of London. It's only the second year but they've already made it very memorable and have managed to entice some great authors to panels and one-on-one interviews.
My favourite quotes had to be from Frederick Forsyth (that's him in the red blazer below cutting the ribbon to kick the event off) who said:
"I knew Jeffrey Archer when he was an innocent man which shows how old I am"
...and from Ian Rankin:
"I became an overnight success after 14 years"
I recommend it - plus the whole day was only £40, no authors were paid to attend, all profits went to the charity Centrepoint and (on the mercenary side) there were food stalls and a beer tent. What's not to like?
